Elder Law Attorney in Utah

Aging brings both practical and emotional decisions, and you shouldn’t have to face them alone. As your elder law attorney, Angel Advocates helps you navigate the realities of getting older with clarity, compassion, and thoughtful planning.

What Is Elder Law?

As we grow older, questions about health, safety, long-term care, and family support can feel heavy. Elder law is designed to bring clarity and peace during those seasons of life. It’s not just paperwork, it’s a plan to protect your dignity, ease your family’s worries, and ensure your wishes are honored when it matters most.

What Are the Different Types of Elder Law Support?

Elder law covers a wide range of tools designed to protect your wellbeing, safeguard your assets, and make sure your wishes are honored as life changes. At Angel Advocates, we take a relationship-driven approach, focusing on clarity, dignity, and long-term security for you and your family.

Here are the main types of elder law support we provide:

Long-Term Care Planning

Planning for future care needs, whether at home, in assisted living, or in a nursing facility, while protecting your assets and maintaining as much independence as possible.

Medicaid & Benefits Guidance

Understanding eligibility rules, spend-down requirements, and available programs. We help you prepare, apply, and protect your resources without losing essential benefits.

Guardianships & Conservatorships

When decision-making becomes difficult or unsafe, we guide families through the process of establishing the right level of legal support while preserving dignity and personal rights.

Healthcare Decision Planning

Clear tools like healthcare directives, medical powers of attorney, and end-of-life planning that ensure your voice is heard when you can’t speak for yourself.

Financial & Legal Protections

Coordinating powers of attorney, trusts, and wills so your financial life stays organized, protected, and aligned with your long-term wishes.

Elder Abuse Prevention & Advocacy

Support for recognizing, preventing, and responding to financial exploitation, neglect, or unsafe living conditions.

Who Needs Elder Law in Utah?

Elder law is not only for seniors, it’s for anyone who wants to plan ahead, protect their independence, and make thoughtful decisions about future care, finances, and family support. At Angel Advocates, the families we serve often include:

Older Adults Planning for the Future

Prepare for healthcare needs, long-term care costs, and financial stability with clarity and confidence.

Adult Children Supporting Aging Parents

Get guidance on medical decisions, safety concerns, and how to step in legally when parents need help.

Married Couples & Life Partners

Coordinate care plans, powers of attorney, and long-term protection so neither partner is left vulnerable.

Caregivers Navigating Complex Needs

Access support for benefits, decision-making authority, and long-term stability for aging loved ones.

Single Adults & Widowed Individuals

Create a plan that designates trusted decision-makers and protects your wishes when no spouse is available.

Families Facing a New Diagnosis

Respond to Alzheimer’s, dementia, stroke, or mobility changes with clear legal tools and care planning.

Conservatorship vs. Guardianship

Families often hear both terms and wonder which one they actually need. While they sound similar, conservatorship and guardianship protect different parts of a person’s life.

Conservatorship: Financial Decisions

A legal conservatorship gives a trusted person authority to manage money, property, benefits, and financial responsibilities for someone who cannot do it alone. Think finances, assets, and protection from financial abuse.

Guardianship: Personal & Healthcare Decisions

Guardianship gives someone authority to make personal decisions, such as healthcare choices, housing, daily care, and safety, when a person is unable to manage those areas independently.

My husband and I were discussing updating our wills and discussed changing from a will to a trust. My husband saw an article in a magazine and was impressed by story of Klea and her husband. He called and requested information. We then started meeting over Zoom with Klea, where we discussed our complicated desires of a blended second marriage where we wanted our children to be treated in a fair and equitable manner after our deaths. Klea was able to provide clarity and understanding to our discussions and we were able to watch videos explaining the legal implications. The process was clear and straightforward and completed in a friendly efficient manner. We would highly recommend them to others who are deciding trust vs. wills.

Klea Harris and her team at Angel Advocates truly were, for me and my family, angles sent to help us in a difficult time. I was not the proactive client that planned well in advance of a dire situation in life. When I reached out to Klea in need of some estate planning in order to address the likely passing of my wife in a not too distant future, Angel Advocates came together for us in a wonderful way. Klea moved items around in her calendar to meet with me the very afternoon of the day I phoned her, and actually came in person to the hospital to meet with me and my wife. Her questions were sincere and full of compassion in helping us make the decisions we needed to prepare for our future. I especially loved the encouragement she offered to us in crafting our communication in the trust to be warm and inviting toward our heirs when they would read the document. They will have a feeling of comfort hearing our personal words to them. Even though Klea and her entire team were leaving town just a day later to go on a planned retreat, they spent late hours preparing our paperwork and met again the next day with us for signing, right before heading out of town. What a wonderful group of individuals who make this process as meaningful as they can.

Klea and her team were so amazing and I am so satisfied with my experience with them. They are so great to work with and really help prepare you and your family for something that we all have to go through. I high recommend everyone does this, no matter your age or circumstance. I truly appreciate their continued check ins and being there for the long haul of any changes that happen in our lives.

Planning Brings Peace

Facing the future can feel heavy, but it doesn’t have to. I’ve walked many families through the same worries you may be carrying right now, confusion, conflict, or uncertainty about what comes next. Together, we can turn those worries into a plan that protects your loved ones and brings you peace of mind.

When should I hire an elder law attorney

As soon as care needs begin to change. Early planning is kinder, cheaper, and gives more options. Crisis planning is possible, and we handle that too.

Power of attorney for an elderly parent or guardianship

Start with powers of attorney if your parent can still sign. If they cannot or there is conflict, the court may require guardianship or conservatorship. We explain both and guide the next step.

How do we pay for long term care

We review income, insurance, and benefits and outline legal options that may help preserve resources. You get a clear path and a written plan.
